Workshop Details

Unlock the power of an irresistible presence (IP). Without saying a word, captivate an audience, and enjoy doing it… without caring what is desired by the masses. Tap into what is needed in the space you take up. In this aparatus-agnostic™ workshop, participants will engage in a prompt-based movement sequence to develop their own IP.

All levels with basic understanding of dance fundamentals: full pirouette, body rolls, leg flairs/waves.

Attendees will be challenged with exploring both subtle and explosive moments, regardless of the apparatus (pole, floor, chair, pole, lyra, lollipop), learning how to incorporate them into their own flow that feels both personal and inviting to those lucky to witness it.

Examine the use of erotic capital [Siobhan Brooks] in the visual to become aware of its impact. Confront feels about cyber and physical space as markets of attention & bodies. Prioritize be(cum)ing [Zalika U. Ibaorimi] visible in the production of the visual. Put into practice “All Eyes On Me” [Hennessy BLK] methods, expanding them into revelations on “Possession” [Ashley S] of taste, lore and essence ethics [Carmine Black] in the eyeconomy.

All levels. The only pre-req is that you are confident in a modality like: Ropework, Polework, Posework, Heelwork, Flexiwork, Legwork, Slingwork, Hoopwork, Chairwork, Wallwork, Dancework, Aerialwork, Matwork, Improv work— whatever thang your stank is undeniably on.

This will be a multi-apparatus workshop ( bring your apparatus, outside rigging welcome) with directives that include recording devices, audio/visual techniques and production equipment. We will use subversive iconography tricks to delineate documentation versus visualizing.
